In Maine in 1876, George Henry Bass founded footwear company G.H. Bass & Co. In 1936, Bass Weejuns were born, inspired by a Norwegian farm shoe designed for ‘loafing in the field’ and became the world’s first penny loafers. The classic shoe which is still bench-crafted and hand-stitched is loved for its timeless style with a contemporary twist.
Initially worn only in summer in the home, Bass Weejuns loafers quickly grew in popularity, becoming a staple shoe in men’s and women’s casual wardrobes and loved through the years – from American Ivy League to Mods in the 1960s. Discover the full story of Bass Weejuns on our blog.
